In what may be one of the most high profile cockups in the nascent history of the Internet, Pakistani government tried to ban Youtube. Unfortuntely, due to the fact that many people employed at Pakistan Telecom really don’t have a clue as to what they’re doing, they caused Youtube to be blocked from the entire Internet!
Yes, you heard that right. An attempt to block Youtube from Pakistani users actually resulted in a worldwide access denial. Pakistani girls are up in fury at the attempt to block one of their favorite websites from Pakistan, as are their male counterparts.
Samina Khan, resident cultural analyst at Pakistanigirls.org said that while the ban on Youtube may have played to the sensibilities of certain segments of the population, most people used Youtube for entertainment purposes and for watching videos and music. Any attempt to filter out objectionable content from Youtube will be affected by the fact that many people don’t have the knowhow or will to access it in the first place, thereby watching only what they are searching for.
